Installing and Configuring IIS on Windows Server

On this page

IIS (Internet Information Services) is Microsoft's web server, used to host websites and applications on a Windows Cloud Server.

Installing IIS

Step 1: Open Server Manager

Connect to your server via RDP, then open Server Manager (it usually opens automatically on login).

Step 2: Add the Web Server role

Click Add roles and features, proceed through the wizard, and select Web Server (IIS) as the role to install.

Step 3: Complete installation

Accept the default features unless you have a specific requirement, and click Install. This takes a few minutes.

Adding a website in IIS

Step 1: Open IIS Manager

Search for IIS Manager in the Start menu.

Step 2: Add a new site

Right-click Sites and choose Add Website. Give it a name, point it to the folder containing your site's files, and set the binding (typically port 80 for HTTP, or 443 for HTTPS with a certificate).

Step 3: Test it

Browse to your server's IP address or domain name to confirm the site loads.
