Connecting to Your Linux Cloud Server via SSH

On this page

SSH is how you connect to and manage a Linux Cloud Server from the command line.

What you'll need

Your server's IP address, your root (or sudo) username, and your password or SSH key — all provided in your welcome email after your Cloud Server is provisioned.

Connecting

On Mac or Linux

Open Terminal and run: ssh root@your-server-ip, then enter your password when prompted.

On Windows

Use an SSH client such as PuTTY. Enter your server's IP address as the host, port 22, and connect — you'll be prompted for your username and password.

Using SSH keys instead of a password

For better security, you can generate an SSH key pair and add the public key to your server, then disable password-based login entirely. Contact our support team if you'd like help setting this up.

First things to check after connecting

Confirm you can run basic commands like ls and whoami, and consider changing your root password if you haven't already.
