Creating and Using an FTP Account

FTP lets you upload and manage your website's files using a dedicated FTP program like FileZilla, instead of File Manager in your browser.

Creating an FTP account

Step 1: Open FTP Accounts

Log into cPanel and open FTP Accounts under the Files section.

Step 2: Create the account

Enter a username, a strong password, and choose the directory this account should have access to — usually public_html for a main website, or a specific subfolder if you want to limit access.

Step 3: Create

Click Create FTP Account.

Connecting with an FTP client

In your FTP program, enter your domain name (or server hostname) as the host, your FTP username and password, and port 21. Once connected, you can drag and drop files directly to and from your hosting account.
