How to Restore Your Website, Files, Databases and Emails with JetBackup
On this page
TechInHost keeps automatic backups of your hosting account for 30 days. You can restore from them yourself in cPanel, at any time, with no support ticket needed.
Before you start
Restoring replaces current data. A restore overwrites what is there now with the older copy. Anything you changed after the backup date will be lost.
When unsure, download first. You can download a backup instead of restoring it, check it, and then decide.
Only the last 30 days are available. Older backups are removed automatically.
Large restores take time. Don’t close the page. You can follow progress under Queue.
Open JetBackup
Log in to cPanel (in your client area, click Login to cPanel).
Find JetBackup 5 in the Files section and click it.
The dashboard shows your total backups and account usage. Everything you need is under Restore & Download:
Menu item | What it restores |
|---|---|
Full Backups | Your entire account |
Home Directory | Website files and folders |
Databases | Your databases (WordPress and other apps) |
Email Accounts | Mailboxes and the emails inside them |
Cron Jobs | Scheduled tasks |
Database Users | Database logins |
Domains | DNS and domain settings |
Certificates | SSL certificates |
FTP Accounts | FTP logins |
Restore just one file or folder
Use this when you deleted or broke one file, such as wp-config.php or .htaccess.
Go to Restore & Download > Home Directory.
Choose the backup date you want (pick one from before the problem).
Browse into the folders. Your website files are usually in
public_html.Tick the file or folder you need.
Choose Restore to put it back in its original place, or Download to save a copy to your computer.
Confirm, then check Queue until it shows completed.
Tip: if you aren’t sure the old version is right, download it first and compare.
Restore your whole website files (full directory)
Use this when the whole site is broken, for example after a hack or a bad update.
Go to Restore & Download > Home Directory.
Choose a date from before the problem started.
Select the whole home directory (not individual items) and choose Restore.
Confirm and watch Queue.
Important: this replaces your site files with older versions. If your site uses a database (WordPress does), restore the database from the same date too, so the two match.
Restore a database
Go to Restore & Download > Databases.
Choose the date, then your database (for WordPress it looks like
username_wp123).Choose Restore and confirm.
This overwrites the current database. It does not change database passwords or users.
Restore email
Go to Restore & Download > Email Accounts.
Choose the date and the mailbox.
Choose Restore and confirm.
Emails that existed on the backup date come back. Emails you deleted since then will reappear, and emails received since then are kept.
Restore your entire account (last resort)
Use this only if nothing else works, because it replaces everything: files, databases, emails and settings.
Go to Restore & Download > Full Backups.
Choose the date and choose Restore.
Confirm and wait for it to finish. It can take a while.
If you aren’t sure, contact us first.
Check that it worked
Open your website in a private or incognito window.
Log in to your site’s admin area.
Send yourself a test email if you restored mail.
Common questions
Which date should I choose?
The most recent one from before the problem began.
Will I lose newer content?
Yes, anything created after the backup date in the part you restore. Download your current data first if you might need it.
I can’t find the backup I need.
Backups older than 30 days are deleted. Contact support if you think one should exist.
The restore seems stuck.
Check Queue. Large accounts take time. If it has not finished after a long while, open a support ticket.
What are the Alerts?
They tell you about backup or restore problems. Check them if something didn’t work.
Need help?
Open a ticket from your client area at panel.techinhost.com. Tell us your domain, what you want back, and the date you’d like to restore from.
