Enabling and Using SSH Access

On this page

SSH gives you command-line access to your hosting account — useful for running commands like npm install, git, or managing files in bulk.

Checking if SSH is enabled

SSH access is enabled by default on most plans. If you're not sure, contact our support team to confirm or request it to be enabled on your account.

Connecting via SSH

Using an SSH client (such as Terminal on Mac/Linux, or PuTTY on Windows), connect using your domain or server hostname, your cPanel username, and port 22. You'll be prompted for your cPanel password, or an SSH key if you've set one up.

Using SSH keys instead of a password

Open SSH Access under the Security section in cPanel, then Manage SSH Keys to generate a new key pair or import an existing public key for more secure, passwordless logins.

Using the built-in Terminal

If you'd rather not set up a separate SSH client, cPanel includes a Terminal app under the Advanced section that gives you command-line access directly in your browser.
