Scheduling Tasks With Cron Jobs

On this page

Cron jobs let you run a script or command automatically on a schedule — for example, a daily database backup or a recurring cleanup task.

Creating a cron job

Step 1: Open Cron Jobs

Log into cPanel and open Cron Jobs under the Advanced section.

Step 2: Set the schedule

Choose how often the job should run using the minute, hour, day, month and weekday fields, or pick one of the common schedule presets.

Step 3: Enter the command

Type the command to run, typically the path to a PHP script preceded by the PHP binary, for example: php /home/username/public_html/script.php

Step 4: Add the job

Click Add New Cron Job to save it. It will run automatically at the schedule you set from then on.

Email notifications

By default, cron job output is emailed to your cPanel contact address. You can change or disable this under Cron Email in the same section.
